Please note: ordering for February is closed.  Ordering for March will be open soon.

Souper Bowl Sunday

On February 7, 140 million people all over the world will tune in to watch the Super Bowl football game. There will be parties with abundant food, friendship and fellowship. At the same time, there will be people here in our community worrying about how they will stay warm, finding shelter and a warm meal or how they will pay for groceries or their utilities and rent.

Please join young people in our congregation as we participate in a national effort to raise food, money and awareness of the hunger here in Lawrenceville. We are asking that you bring non-perishable food items and drop $1 or more into the soup pot as you leave worship. All donations go directly to the Lawrenceville Co-Operative Ministry. Money is used to supplement utility needs and prescriptions of the clients they serve.

Those who need help may not know that you cared, but God will.

Sweetheart Pancake Breakfast

Treat your sweetie to a delicious Valentine’s pancake breakfast. On February 14 from 8:30 to 12 noon in the fellowship hall, the Mission Team will be hosting a breakfast to support the Honduras Mission Trip. There will be a free-will offering. Cantact Traci Herring  or Richard Burgess if you have any questions or need more information.

New Member Luncheon

The next new member luncheon will be held Sunday, February, 21, at 12:30 p.m. If you’ve been worshipping with us and consider yourself a member, but have not completed a membership form or attended a New Member Luncheon, we invite you to take that first step. This will allow us to welcome you in a personal way and acquaint you with our history and the ministries of our congregation. Your membership form enables us to add you to our membership roll and ensures that you receive mailings, Calling Post messages and other church communications in a timely manner. For more information, contact Jenny Lanning on Sunday at the Welcome Center at church or ask one of the pastors at 770 963-4499.

Softball

Calling all softball players. The men’s league starts up again on March 7. If you did not play last year, please sign up in the narthex at church or call Brett Swartz if you are interested in playing this year. If we have enough interest we might try and field two teams this year.

Hunger Walk at Turner Field

Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 14, and get ready to raise money to fight hunger. That’s when the Hunger Walk 2010 takes place at Turner Field. Registration begins at noon and the main event kicks off at 2 p.m. when people of all ages and all faiths gather at the starting line for the 5K Walk/Fun Run. The money raised by the participants benefits the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Lutheran Services of Georgia, AND Christ the Lord! Every dollar raised provides invaluable resources for local food banks, child-care facilities, senior centers and women’s shelters. Our goal for 2010 is to raise $1,000 to fight hunger in the Atlanta Metropolitan area!

This is a fun event for everyone and it’s your only chance each year to walk through the streets of downtown Atlanta and around the capitol with no traffic and in the company of thousands of caring people from the Greater Atlanta area. This is a “hands on” event that truly benefits the neediest people in our community.

Information and registration forms are in the narthex at the Hunger Walk table display — just sign-up and start raising your hunger contributions today. If you can’t join us for the actual walk, please make a donation to one of the members that are walking. Together, we can make a difference in fighting hunger!

Easter Egg Hunt

The Easter Egg Hunt will take place on Saturday, March 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for families with children infant through 5th grade. We will also have a potluck lunch and other fun activities. Please bring a dozen filled, plastic Easter eggs per child and a dish to share for lunch. We will meet in the fellowship hall. The egg hunt will take place outside, but will be moved inside if it is rainy or cold. If you would like to sign up to attend or help with the event in a small way, please contact Kelli Robinson via fellowship@christthelordlutheran.org  or sign up on the Fellowship bulletin board in the narthex. Hope to see you and your family there!

Men's Retreat - April 23-25, 2010.

As of today, January 25, 2010, we already have 10 men signed up for Men’s Retreat from April 23 to 25. We hope you would consider a wonderful weekend with the men. We have a blast. The meals are made by men and eaten by men. We have devotions, free time to enjoy the mountains or Helen, Georgia, an annual wiffleball tournament, card games and general “ribbing.” If you would like to go, simply e-mail me pb@christthelordlutheran.org , call me at 770 963-4499, or tell me at church. Cost of the event is $135. If you would like to see the place where we are staying, simply Google Tanglewoodcabinrentalsofhelen.

Job Networking on Tuesday

If you find yourself among the ranks of the unemployed, are looking for a job, or have decided to return to work after taking a career break, then join the new Jobseekers Network right here at Christ the Lord every Tuesday at noon.

Meetings are held in the fellowship hall and are formatted to allow for sharing job leads and other networking opportunities, to provide a forum to ask and answer questions about challenges and job searching techniques, to offer much-need moral support, and they also include a mini “how to” workshop each week. The sessions are concluded with a short, inspiring service led by Pastor Bob in the sanctuary.

Future workshop topics include the job search cold call, interviewing tips and techniques, resume formatting and keywords, cover letters, elevator pitches, and more. Each week, attendees have an opportunity to participate in a resume swap where other participants take the time to offer short critiques and suggestions for improvement.

The meeting is always open to individuals who are seeking candidates for opened positions as well. If you have a position that you would like the group to know about or if you want to know if someone in the group is looking for work that you have to offer, please send the information to jobseekers@christthelord.com.

If you are unable to attend, you can still have access to some of the job search tools that are provided each week and receive emails of job opportunities. Find us online at Google Groups:   http://groups.google.com/group/ctl-jobseekers.

See you on Tuesday!

Care Team

The CARE Team is looking for volunteers from the congregation to serve as “contacts” with our growing number of sick and/or shut-in members. A contact person can make phone calls, write letters, visit or pray for the other person. If you feel called to this kind of caring ministry, please let Pastor Julie or another member of the CARE Team know. In serving others, you will be richly blessed!

The CARE Team will meet on Saturday, February 6, from 9:30 to11 a.m. In addition to our regular meeting and check-in with caregivers, we will spend some time with the educational topic, “Suicide awareness and care for families.” Everyone is welcome to join us as we discuss this critical piece of care ministry. Sunday school room 7.
