into our Gwinnett County community to share our blessings with others.

Relay
for Life
Families
Fighting for a Cure is looking for eager walkers to join them on May 9 and
10, as they walk the Gwinnett County Relay for Life. Everyone any age is
welcome to come walk part of the evening or all of the evening. This is the
American Cancer Society’s largest fundraiser. For more information, contact
Kerin or Mark Reed via the church office - 770-963-4499.
Habitat for Humanity
Join Outreach
Ministry along with other Gwinnett County Lutheran churches to help build a
Thrivent/Habitat House for the Aliu family at 4470 McCord Livsey Road in
Snellville. Thanks to the people who helped on April 5th and May 3rd.
Another way
that you can help would by providing food for 30 to 35 people on the build
date or by contributing toward the $2,000 needed as the church’s share of
the cost for the house. Write your check to Christ the Lord and earmark it
for “Habitat House.”

information, contact Jim Summerville via

Iraq
Refugee Family
One of the
first Iraqi refugee families arrived in Lawrenceville March 10. It is a mom
and dad with 3 children. The boys are 14 and 11 and the girl is 9 years old.
Both parents have college educations and know some English. They are
starting their lives over after fleeing the war in Iraq. Please pray for
them.
The family
would welcome your friendship and help learning English. They are anxious to
get to know their new community and surroundings. If you have children close
in age with this family, you could invite them on a family outing with your
family. (The new family does not have a car yet.)
We are asking
for donations of mattresses, sheets, blankets and comforters. We need three
twin beds and one full or queen size mattress set.
The biggest
need will be for transportation once the dad is working. Do you know of
someone who has a reliable car that they would be willing to donate? We can
supply a charitable contribution tax receipt for the donor. It would be a
tremendous blessing for the family.
Contact Betsy
Jagels, via
refugee@christthelordlutheran.org if you would like to meet the family
or to arrange mattress deliveries. Please bring sheets and bedding to church
and place in refugee collection box in the narthex of the church.
Lawrenceville Co-op
Thanks so much to all
those who contributed cans and money for the Lawrenceville Co-Op on “Souper
Bowl” Sunday! Because of our support and that of many other area churches,
last year the Co-Op was able to provide food or emergency financial
assistance to 3,249 different households – the most ever! Many of those
seeking help were homeless.
Christ the
Lord is one of 61 Atlanta-area congregations that provided some form of
support for the Co-Op last year. Some churches made financial contributions,
several donated items for the food pantry, and some volunteered their time.
At Christ the Lord, we did all three: we donated nearly 14,000 cans of food,
$7,784 in financial support, and 18 of our members volunteered for a total
of 735 hours. To put those numbers in perspective, among area churches we
were the 4th largest contributor of food and volunteer hours, and the 6th
largest financial donor. Thank you!
None of the
supporting congregations could duplicate the Co-Op’s services on their own.
But by combining the resources of many churches, we are all able to serve
the needs in this community more effectively. Please consider purchasing a
few cans for the Co-Op when you do your own grocery shopping. You may bring
your donations to the church on any Sunday and place them in the specially
marked bins in the narthex. The following food items are always needed:
Canned
meats
Canned fruit
Beans
Stews
Chunky soups
Cereal & oatmeal
Rice/potatoes
Personal care items (such as toothpaste, soap, deodorant, diapers)
Laundry/dish detergent
Thank-you for
your strong support of this ministry!

Clothing donations
Have you ever wondered who
could really use your old clothing that is still in good condition? You may
want to consider donating it to Lawrenceville First Baptist Church, which
operates a clothing mission to help local residents. This ministry has been
quietly operating for many years, recycling donated clothing to those in
need within our community. Many of the donations are sold at a low price in
the mission’s store. Clients referred by the Lawrenceville Co-Op may receive
free clothing once a month for up to a year.
Donations of
clothing are accepted year-round at First Baptist. Baby and children’s
clothes are especially needed. Clothing may be delivered in person on
Tuesday, Friday, or Saturday mornings, beginning at 9 a.m. Or you may place
your donations in the “Drop Box” in the church parking lot at any time.
(Include your name and address on a note with the clothes you place in the
Drop Box and the church will mail you a tax receipt.)
First Baptist
is located at 165 Clayton Street in downtown Lawrenceville, just south of
the historic courthouse. The clothing mission and its Drop Box are in a
small brick building in the church parking lot, with a direct entrance from
Luckie Street. (Please do not bring your clothing donations to Christ the
Lord, as we are not able to store or transport them for you.)

Care Team
Do you have a
special place in your heart for people who are alone or hurting? Do your
heartstrings tug at you when you know that someone is in need? Do you enjoy just
taking some time and talking by phone or in person with someone who is confined
to their home? You may also find that you would like to be part of Christ the
Lord’s Care Team.
There will be a
CARE Team meeting on Saturday, February 9, at 10 a.m. (for about one hour). This
meeting is for anyone already participating in a caring/visitation ministry at
Christ the Lord and anyone who is interested in becoming involved in such a
ministry. This meeting is a time to touch base and get to know you, as well as
an opportunity to discuss options for care ministry training and further
organization as a group. There is a call out for snacks, so don’t miss out!

Prayer Shawls
A heartfelt “thank you” for
the wonderful response from our knitters and crocheters who want to be a part of
this compassionate ministry, making Prayer Shawls for shut-ins and those
hospitalized with serious illnesses. If you would like to sign up to make a
prayer shawl, please contact Juanita Hood or the church office.
We have been
blessed with several Baptisms the past few weeks; therefore, our baptismal shawl
supply has dwindled to two. If you have a completed shawl at home, please
bring it to the church. If not, please consider doing another one for this
wonderful ministry. Thank you so much for all your help as it means so
much to the families who receive the shawl.
Here are a few guidelines that
will help us in the recordkeeping of this ministry: There will be a tote at the
church for the completed shawls with “sign-in” and sign-out” sheets. When you
bring in a completed shawl, please put it in the tote and then sign the “In”
sheet with the date and your name. When you take a shawl out, again sign your
name, date and put the person’s name who will receive the shawl.
Again, thanks to all, and
happy knitting and crocheting.
