Summer Youth Sunday School: "St. Paul Goes to the Movies"

Middle and High School Youth, mark your calendars. Summer youth Sunday school will begin Sunday, June 1, at 10 a.m. in the youth room. Like last summer, we will watch a clip of a current movie, followed by a time of discussion and Bible study. Youth who have completed 7th grade through college (age) are invited to join us. AFFIRM registrations are here! You can pick one up in Vickie Davis’ office, or online at www.elca-ses.org/youth. The event will be held at the University of North Alabama in Florence, Alabama. It will begin on Sunday, June 15, and conclude on Friday, June 20. The cost is $325, which includes lodging, all meals from Sunday supper through Friday lunch, an event T-shirt, and all program costs. Scholarships are available both through the Synod (see www.elca-ses.org/youth) and our congregation. If you need financial assistance, please speak to Vickie or one of the Pastors.

AFFIRM is a five-day event of faith, fellowship, and friends sponsored by the ELCA Southeastern Synod. Grounded in Scripture, the event offers youth the opportunity to develop the ministry/live skills that allow each individual to know and live out God’s affirming touch in Jesus Christ. The theme for this year’s event is “Arise, Shine.” God has given us reasons to Arise out of the darkness of sin and Shine with the newness and forgiveness he offers. At AFFIRM we hope to learn more about what that means in our daily lives.

AFFIRM BUS:  We have chartered a BUS to take us to and from AFFIRM. The cost is $70 per person, round trip. The April 1 deadline to sign up has passed. If you are interested in a seat on the bus, please call Vickie (770 963-4499) as soon as possible, as the seats are now open to other area congregations.

  

Affirmation of Baptism will be celebrated on Sunday, May 11, at the 11:00 service. Please keep the following 8th grade youth in your prayers as they confirm their faith:  Dominique LaSelva, Julianna Luther, Morgan Maloof, Emily Michko, Katie Scott, Helene Treu, Jennifer Velandia, Breanna Richardson, Melissa Aldridge, Madison Hellsten, Danielle Koletsos, Brandi Ryan, Erin McRae, Brandon Cormier, Luke Siegmann, Sammy Powell, Johnny Reiner, Jacob Lee, Carson Bowers, Shane Duggan, Camden Mitchell, Brandon Schussler, Mitchell Kyle, Javan Jacques, and  Mason Havens.

There will be a dinner and rehearsal for all 8th graders and their families on Saturday, May 10, at 6:00 p.m.
 

Grads honored: All high school graduates are invited to church on May 18, when we will take time to honor them and give thanks for all they have meant to their families and to us. We also invite their parents to join them, as they will be part of the ceremony. This is part of our stepping stone program as we intentionally mark the moments of our youth’s lives from baptism to graduation.
