Sunday Morning Classes

The “411 on Lutherans”

Who are “Lutherans”? Where did the church begin? What do we believe? What makes us unique among churches? Have questions about who we are as a church? Come for a crash course on Sunday, February 21, at 11 a.m. The class meets for one hour. The new member luncheon follows at 12:30, for anyone interested in joining the church. After the presentation, how will you be able to resist? Informal and fun, everyone is welcome! Bring your children, spouse, friends, questions, etc.

Pastor's Class

The Pastor’s Class continues with a study of the book of Genesis. Class will meet on Sunday, February 7, 14 & 21, at 9 and 10 a.m. The class is for everyone who desires a stronger foundation in scripture. Join us for Bible study and conversation as we learn about the patriarchs and matriarchs of the Old Testament. Click here for relevant class notes.

There are two class times: 9 and 10 AM. We meet in Sunday school room 9.

“Funeral Planning 101.”

On Sunday, February 28, there will be a special class offered at 9 and 10 a.m., “Funeral Planning 101.” Did you know our church has a form that should be filed out and on file in the office, directing pastors and family members of your decisions? Far from morbid, this will be a chance to look over the form, receive important information and ask questions. Spend a few minutes with scripture and the hymnal, making notes of your wishes. This is a help to your loved ones, who often have to make quick and sometimes difficult decisions. Join us in a supportive and friendly environment. No RSVP needed, just come by. Sunday school room 9.

Daily Discipleship

Our Daily Discipleship group continues to meet on Sundays at 9 a.m. in room 8. The ELCA lectionary Bible study leads to a lively discussion based on the weekly gospel lesson. Come join us as we apply the gospel lessons to our daily living.

Everyone is invited to come whenever they can for food, fun, and fellowship as we share our faith journey!

Thursdays Mornings: Bible study group!

Thursday morning Bible study will meet every Thursday in February for a study called, “Questions for Jesus: Studies in the Gospel of Mark.” This is a new ELCA Book of Faith Bible study and is quite thought-provoking. All adults are welcome from 11 to noon for discussion and spiritual growth. The schedule of topics is as follows:

Men’s Bible Study Group

Men’s Bible Study is ON!

All men are invited to join great discussion as we study Genesis. We are friends helping each other to learn and grow in our faith as we discuss His Word. We meet every Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. in room 8. Hope to see you there!

The Wednesday Women’s Bible Study Group

In John 10:10 Jesus said, 'I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.'

Our Wednesay morning Women's Bible Study group is currently on hiatus. Ideas for future studies are welcome. Please contact Robin Eggleston via wbs@christthelordlutheran.org if you are interested in signing up for this group and to indicate a need for childcare.

Women’s Retreat 2009

Just a reminder -- registration for the women’s retreat is due by Sunday, September 6, along with a deposit of $50. The retreat is planned for Friday, September 25 through Sunday, September 27 at Forrest Hills Resort and Conference Center near Dahlonega. Registration has been great for this year’s event, Living Simply: Choosing Less in a World of More. We are anticipating a wonderful weekend “away” from the stresses of everyday life and fellowship with our sisters in Christ. Total cost for the weekend is $135, including all meals except Friday dinner. Please give registration forms to Pastor Julie and deposit payment to the office as soon as possible, so you don’t miss out!

Men's Retreat - April 23-25, 2010.
I am announcing the Men’s Retreat (April 23 to 25) early this year to be sure you have it on your calendar and to begin registering people. We have a brand new location this year that I think you will love. The location is Tanglewood Cabins in Helen Georgia, which is just a short distance from our previous place. You can look it up on the internet. One of the places we will have to use is the lodge, a great place for our devotions and down time. Pricing will be available soon. I do not expect it go up much over last year, if any. If you are interested in the Men’s Retreat, please let me know early. If you would like to invite a friend, we welcome them. If you would like to know more about our retreat, please speak with me. Let’s get an early start on a new year.

A Marriage Enrichment Workshop was held November 3, 2006. Led by husband and wife psychologists Morgan and Sylvia Kyle, this provided an excellent time for couples to strengthen their marriage. It is a fun, interesting time together (lots of laughter and conversation). The focus this year is on communication. The cost is $25 per couple, which includes Friday evening snacks, Saturday continental breakfast and lunch.
