The Music Ministry at Christ The Lord is doing wonderful things and you are always invited to join us. Here’s what’s going on:

Annual Musical:

The CTL Players present the musical comedy:

"Smoke on the Mountain"

The year is 1938. It’s Saturday night in Mount Pleasant, North Carolina, and the good Reverend Oglethorpe has invited the Sanders Family Singers to provide an upliftin’ evenin’ of singin’ and witnessin’. Pull up a pew and join in the rollicking good time!

Written by Connie Ray/Conceived by Alan Bailey
Musical Arrangements by Mike Craver and Mark Hardwick
Originally produced by The McCarter Theatre Company, Princeton, New Jersey; Off-Broadway Production by The Lamb’s Theatre Company, New York City

Show Times:
Sunday, April 27, at 6 p.m.
Friday, May 2, at 7 p.m.
Saturday, May 3, at 4 p.m.

NOTE:  Due to Musical Rehearsals and the Lenten Services, the School of Rock and Choir practice times/dates will change. So keep your eye on our calendar on the Music Ministry bulletin board, and in your Sunday bulletin, or contact Laura Bryant at the church office (770 963-4499).

Music Ministry Rehearsal Schedule

MONDAY

6:30 Recorder Choir: This is a great way for the entire family to do something musical together!

7:00 School of Rock: This is not just for the “church band,” but for anyone interested in working on their “chops”.  Even if you haven’t played for a long time, it’s never too late – come jam with us!

TUESDAY

7:00 Handbell Choir: Our own Grace Notes prepare wonderful music for worship. With the addition of a new octave, we          now have more spaces available in this choir.

WEDNESDAY

5:30 Children’s Choir:  this group meets just prior to Friends of Faith. We have a great time singing fun songs.

5:30 Liturgical Dance: Our Aurora Glory Dancers and Imagination Dancers use this time to put together great selections, all to the Glory of God. Come and see what it’s all about.

7:00 Contemporary Choir: Don’t worry – if you can’t read music, its okay.  We have loads of fun learning contemporary Christian music to sing on Sunday mornings. It’s all about having a great time, and everyone is welcome to join this choir. Plus you get a cool shirt, your own personalized Morning Star book, and a reserved seat. What more could you ask for?

8:00 Traditional Choir: This choir performs at the 11:00 service. We focus on beautiful traditional selections, but could use many more members. Again, cool shirt, personalized book, and reserved seat. Give it a try!

SUNDAY

11:00 Children’s Chime Choir: We have two groups who meet and learn how to play chimes. It’s a great experience for kids. Oh, and parents – just as a side note: Music is all about MATH – you might just see better math grades if your children are involved in music.

11:00 CTL Rhythm Section: This handbell choir is a great place for chimers to move up to handbells, and for adult handbell players to sharpen their skills. It’s a very fun group!

Three times a year our Men’s Choir (“Men in Black”) gets together. A short-term commitment is all it takes – we rehearse two or three times, then sing on Sunday. Check the bulletin for rehearsal times/dates.

And don’t forget to set time aside in the spring to be a part of our annual musical. Always a favorite, it can be hard work, but the loads of laughter and great fellowship will create memories that you will never forget.

I think that covers most of what we have going on. Check out the calendar on the Music Ministry bulletin board in the narthex for exact rehearsal times and dates, or feel free to contact me at laurabryant@christthelordlutheran.org or ring me up at the church office (770 963-4499) for more information.

The gift of music

I wish to see all arts, principally music, in the service of Him who gave and created them.

Music is a fair and glorious gift from God. I would not forego my humble share of music. Singers are never sorrowful, but are merry, and they smile through their troubles in song.

Music makes people kinder, gentler, more staid and reasonable. I am persuaded that after theology, music is the only art capable of affording peace and joy of heart … the devil flees before the sound of music almost as much as before the Word of God.

—Martin Luther

Come On - Make that Joyful Noise !

This is the year for You to join one of the choirs!

(Yes - we mean You!)

"Prayer of the Children"

Can you hear the prayer of the children
on bended knee, in the shadow of an unknown room?
Empty eyes with no more tears to cry,
turning heaven-ward toward the light.

Cryin' "Jesus help me to see the morning light of one more day,
but if I should die before I wake, I pray my soul to take."

Can you feel the hearts of the children
aching for home, for something of their very own?
Reaching hands with nothing to hold on to,
but hope for a better day, a better day.

Cryin' "Jesus help me to feel the love again in my own land,
but if unknown roads lead away from home,
give me loving arms, 'way from harm.

Can you hear the voice of the children
softly pleading for silence in their shattered world?
Empty eyes preach a gospel full of fear,
tears of the innocent on their knees.

Cryin' "Jesus help me to feel the sun again upon my face,
For when darkness clears, I know you're near,
bringing peace again.

Dali cuje te sve dje cje molitve?
Can you hear the prayer of the children?
